The fiancé of a pregnant woman who suffered head injuries Monday afternoon in her Tomball home urged the public to notify authorities if they had any information about the case.””
“I don’t know what kind of person could have done something like this,” Derek Cassard said Tuesday afternoon after he meet with Harris County sheriff’s investigators. I would trade her place in a second.” “I wish it was me.
The woman, April Dorris, was taken by Life Flight helicopter about 1 p.m. Monday to Memorial Hermann-The Texas Medical Center. Her condition remains critical, the family said.
“She’s in bad shape,” he said. “This is an act of violence beyond my own understanding.”
The woman, who is in her mid-20s, is about seven months pregnant, officials said. Officials initially said it had appeared she had been shot in the head, but it now appears she suffered a beating, instead.
Cassard said he was not home at the time when the shooting occurred – he had already left for work as a wrecker driver.
On Tuesday, investigators from the sheriff’s office went to the couple’s blue and gray mobile home in the 22200 block of Main in Tomball where the woman was shot.
Cassard’s mother, Laverne Sczepanski, waited outside. She asked people to send their thoughts and prayers in hopes the young woman will recover enough to tell investigators who shot her.
Sczepanski, said investigators indicated that “everyone is a suspect.”
