A man was wounded in a shooting early Wednesday morning outside an apartment complex in northeast Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.

The shooting occurred around 12:30 a.m. in the 7400 block of New Orleans near Lockwood in the Fifth Ward, Lt. Larry Crowson said.

Two men were outside the complex when they began to argue. During the altercation, one of the men pulled out a gun and shot the other man in the leg and lower hip.

The wounded man was rushed to Memorial Hermann Hospital. His condition was not released, but Crowson said he is expected to survive.

Officers took a man into custody at the scene. Investigators are trying to determine if he is the gunman. If so, he will likely be charged with aggravated assault.

It was not known what sparked the dispute.
